Acne Blue Light Treatment

Chin acne is a common skin condition amongst people. Like acne in other parts of the body, chin acne is caused by excessive oil production, which then becomes trapped in the pores of the skin. The clogged pores then become the breeding grounds of P. acnes bacteria, which then inflame the pores and turn it into a pimple. A pimple may then lead to the existence of whitehead or blackhead.

To cure acne, many different treatments now exist. Over-the-counter and prescribed medications and even homemade treatments are available for combating unwanted chin acne. An alternative is the acne blue light therapy.

Just like the name implies, the acne blue light treatment cures chin acne by means of a blue light, created using fluorescent lights or LEDs. During the treatment, the skin is exposed to the light, which activates porphyrins in the P. acnes bacteria and kills it.

According to researches, the acne blue light treatment has been proven quite effective to combat chin acne. To increase its effectiveness, patients are advised to undergo a treatment once every week for approximately four to eight weeks depending on the severity of the condition. A known side effect after undergoing treatments is redness or pain on the skin. Usually, a topical cream is used in conjunction with the treatment to eliminate pustules and papules.

The cost for an acne blue light treatment may vary from $100 to $600. However, patients who are considering acne blue light treatment should understand that the treatment is relatively new and its effects have not been tested in the long term. While so far treatments have proven successful, there is no absolute guarantee for its safety. Thus, it is advised to seek advice from a certified dermatologist before deciding to undergo the treatment.
